Meet 'Matthew'

  • Age & style - Matthew is 26, he doesn’t like Matt, at all. Go through his Instagram following and its full of Japanese menswear brands, he’s also a big Red-wing shoes enthusiast. Matthew only wears ‘proper’ shoes, wouldn’t be seen dead in a pair of Air maxs, maybe the odd pair of Adidas, he loves the new spezial collection they’ve dropped. He’s heavy on the denim, and especially the high cuffed jeans, like your Lee and Edwin type jeans.

  • Activities, work, skills & hobbies - Matthew is a manager a craft beer taphouse, but on the side he does freelance graphic design, that’s what he studied at university. He’s looking to move into graphic design full time, he just hasn’t made that leap yet. He’s a healthy man, plays football twice a week, as well as his running club on a Tuesday, but he’ll be the first to tell you he is NOT as gym goer, hates the place. His forte is of course graphic design, it’s his bread and butter, he recently worked alongside Bhundobust (an Indian street food joint in town), as well as some work for Channel 4, his biggest commission to date.

  • Tastes and preferences - Drinks plenty of craft ale, plenty… He’s the type of guy who takes charge when it comes to cooking, he’s all about Alaskan salmon for some reason (must be an ego thing). If the food is Nordic, he’s eating it. If the food is BBQ, he’s eating it. If the food is Vegan, he bins it. He’s always sourcing his produce from Kirkgate markets, price is irrelevant if the scran is relevant.

Classic Football Shirts
Meet 'Ben'

  • Age and style - Ben has just turned 24, he’s footie mad! Followed the sport his whole life, and has gained a new understanding for the sport in recent years. Ben’s a Manchester city fan, but he gets bored of winning all the time, hence which made him a neutral fan of football. Ben is a man of simple pleasures when it comes to style, often seen in a Patagonia tee and some Levi’s, that’s when he’s not wearing one of his collectors items! He would rather spend his money on 1998 Barcelona shirt than a fancy branded top from Selfridges (he has a crazy collection at home).

  • Activities, work, skills and hobbies - Ben is part of an inclusive 5-a side football team that plays on Mondays and Thursdays, he used to play Sunday league football, but his passion for the game and all the EDL talk on a sunday has seen him ditch that, instead he would rather go and see two matches over the course of the weekend. Ben studied Sports and Physiotherapy at University, and since graduating, he’s now a full time Physio for the Manchester city Women’s team, a dream job for Ben, working within the club that he has followed since a young age. He pushes for more inclusivity in the sport, he’s part of an LQBTQ+ football fandom community online, who share a passion for vintage football gear, they often meet up for matches. Like I said, he’s footie mad!

  • Tastes and preferences - Ben will always tell you, food on matchday is a no go. Over the years he’s consumed enough pies and bovrils to supply the whole of the North, let’s just say his palette has matured. Like his sustainably minded approach to football, the same goes for his day to day life, especially food. No he’s not a vegan, but he will always shop sustainably conscious with his food, even if it does cost that little bit extra, Manchester City pays well I heard. Although he will tell you about the curse of food at a football match, he’s still partial to the odd pukka pie and mushy peas, tells himself you’ve got to treat yourself sometimes.

Northern Monk
Meet 'Marcus'

  • Age and style - Marcus is just turning 24, a casual guy to say the least, he’s a bit hipster looking really. Looks like he could go smart casual for very different types of occasions, I think laidback is the word. He loves dressing like a grandad, you’ll always catch him in knitwear and earthy tones.

  • Activities, work, skills and hobbies - Yes you’ve probably guessed this one already, he’s a creative. Marcus runs an independent film processing lab with a few of his pals, alongside being a freelance photographer and film-maker. He enjoys to make comedy skits as well as Documentary work, but commercially he is mainly tailored towards working with independent brands and shooting their products. Marcus is part of a running club, who he also meets up with a week for a beer! It’s all about good balance, marcus knows how to reward his hard work. He enjoys hiking and climbing, Marcus and his pals often travel to the Lake District and Wales to hike! (He doesn’t do lads holidays…)

  • Tastes and preferences - Well we already know his palette is one of a craft beer drinker, so let’s talk about his food palette. Marcus cooks as often as he can, with a busy schedule of work, running and beer drinking, he finds himself eating out quite a lot, but staying healthy. He’s a big meat eater, but he makes sure that when he does eat meat, he’s being as sustainably conscious as possible. He’s a sucker for a Korean BBQ grill and Food festivals.

The Plant Point
Meet 'Cath'

  • Age & Style - At the age of 23, Cath has become a much more cautious buyer, whether that’s a new haul from Vinted, all the way down to her weekly food shop at Aldi. Cath loves recycled clothing, having a love for both the morals of second hand buying, and of course, the hunt for the garments! She’s the type you would see at Boomtown in a pre-loved baja hippie hoodie, so you catch my drift on her style.

  • Activities, skills, work and hobbies - having recently graduated textiles at University, Cath’s main goal is to save money and travel. Apart from being a full-time plant carer to her collection, she works full time at Cow Vintage in town, as well as her side hustle ‘Caths Crochets’. I’d say Caths hobbies consist of either cycling the canals of Yorkshire with her pals, or shelling it down on a friday night in Old Red Bus Station in town, yes of course she’s a jungle DJ.

  • Tastes and preferences - Oat milk always comes first with Cath, but she insists its for the taste, not because she’s against normal milk. Well, she doesn’t really have a leg to stand on, calls herself a vegetarian, but I’d lean more towards a flexitarian for sure. Proper partial to a chicken nuggie here and there. Cath keeps herself well-fed in the midst of a crazy lifestyle, but will always make time to keep her plants well-fed, she won’t let you forget that either. Cath is part of local female DJ community, that pushes for more inclusivity in the scene, and as you can see, the prominence of rising female artists around Leeds at the minute is amazing, headlines left right and centre in some of Leeds’ best underground venues.

Vintage Boutique
Meet 'Joel'

  • Age and style - Joel’s just turned 21, in his last year of Uni and I can easily say he’s fully immersed himself in the Hyde Park culture and attire. You would typically see him rocking either a pair of Solomons (He doesn’t even hike LMAO) or some vintage air max’s, which he’ll obnoxiously insist are ‘rare as shit’. Moving on, obviously he’s in a pair of Evisu jeans, mate we get it, your jeans have a cool design on the back stop lifting your t shirt up so high so we can see them, seen enough of them on your Instagram uploads at Brudenell with the boys (this is slowly turning into a rant, I bet he doesn’t even know the history and heritage of Evisu the poor lad). Joels the type of guy to double up on the Evisu, probably wearing an Evisu hoodie or tee to go along with his ‘original style’. Actually, I take that back, he’s most definitely always wearing his Arc’teryx jacket (again, he doesn’t even hike), wow so cool and original Joel.

  • Activities, skills, work and hobbies - Joel can often be seen on Woodhouse Moor with his mates, soaking up that lovely 14 degree heat of Leeds, it’s the only time we don’t see the Evisu jeans (He’s an absolute sucker for a red stripe on a mediocre looking day). He studies chemical engineering at Uni of, and wow does he let you know it about. Hobbies consist of 5 a side football every tuesday, the gym on occasions and getting on the sesh, legend. He’s very academic, but as far as practical skills go, I’ll just leave it there. He reckons him and his mates are in the process of setting  up a wicked low-key brand, reckons it’s gonna be a stroll in the park, reckons he’s got his demographic nailed down, okay Joel (nice and obnoxious again mate).

  • Tastes and preferences - Joel loves a trip to LS6 Cafe with the boys on a saturday morning, he’s all about spending £12 on a salmon bagel, insisting that it definitely sorts out the hangover, sounds sus to me. Other than that, Uber eats is his best friend, or probably packet noodles, he’s not an expert in the kitchen, Joel’s used to Mummy cooking his dinner for him still, come on mate it’s been nearly 3 years away from home now. Says he’s woke and understands inclusivity, but I wouldn’t ask him any specific questions, his privilege might take over. Joel’s not put it in the effort to research and learn (great start to your new clothing brand Joel), he’ll get himself all puddled up, a bit ignorant really. Joel’s a bit of a dick.
